Bespoke design process

Do I need to have a design in mind before working with you?

Not at all! Design consultations work best once you’ve gathered some ideas and inspiration, but you don’t have to know what you want just yet. The bespoke design process will guide you through all the important considerations as we go :)

How much do bespoke rings cost?

Pricing varies depending on the design complexity and materials, but to give you an idea - wedding bands start at around £400 in 18ct gold or platinum, and engagement rings start at around £1000. If you’d like some advice on budgeting, pop me an email anytime and I’ll do my best to help!

How will we communicate?

We’ll keep in touch regularly by email, and you’re always welcome to make an appointment to visit the studio in Glasgow city centre! I’ll keep you updated at every stage of the design & production process with pictures & videos, and you can let me know what method of communication works best for you, especially if you’re trying to keep things a surprise :)

What should I do if I don’t know the correct ring size?

Don’t worry! Most rings can be resized (I’ll let you know if yours is different) and your first resize of up to two UK ring sizes up or down is on the house. For size conversions of more than two sizes, your ring may have to be re-made so I recommend getting as close as possible from the start. You can download a printable size chart by clicking here, or take a look at the blog for tips & tricks to help you in your quest.

Can you work with my sentimental jewellery?

This is a really sweet idea! It depends - please get in touch with some photos & details of your sentimental jewellery and we can explore the options!

Placing an order

How does payment work?

Whether you’re placing an order in the online shop or putting down a deposit on your bespoke piece of jewellery, payment can be made securely by card or by PayPal.

Bespoke designs require a 50% deposit to approve your design & proceed to manufacture, with the remaining 50% falling due prior to delivery. You’ll be sent detailed close-up photos & videos of your ring to approve prior to delivery.

Will my jewellery come with a warranty/certificate/hallmark/valuation?

Every piece of jewellery comes with a 12 month warranty on workmanship.

Focal diamonds are typically provided with a certificate (GIA in the case of natural mined diamonds, IGI in the case of laboratory-created diamonds). Focal coloured gemstones are typically not provided with a certificate.

Every piece of precious metal jewellery is hallmarked in the UK in accordance with the Hallmarking Act 1973 (unless exempt due to weight), please click here to view our Dealers Notice.

All of the details of your design will be captured in a valuation suitable for your insurance provider, and an independent valuation can be arranged if required.

Delivery

How long will my jewellery take to make?

Typical timescales for bespoke and made-to-order pieces are 8-10 weeks, if you require an express service please let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate!

How will my jewellery be sent?

Jewellery will be delivered in a beautiful presentation box, and shipped in discreet packaging with no external branding for discretion. Delivery is insured and tracked, typically by Royal Mail Special Delivery - get in touch for details of international shipping.

Aftercare

What if I change my mind?

If your bespoke piece of jewellery hasn’t moved into production yet, it’s no problem! The bespoke design process allows for a number of design revisions to make sure the design is exactly as you imagine it.

Once production is underway, design changes would incur additional costs for rework. Bespoke goods are non-refundable and non-returnable, except in the case of faulty workmanship.

If you have purchased a one-of-a-kind piece without alterations, your order can be returned in its original condition within 30 days of receipt.

You can view the full Terms & Conditions here.

How should I look after my jewellery?

While this jewellery is designed to last, fine jewellery should always be treated with care. Avoid exposing your jewellery to chemicals or extreme temperatures and never wear your jewellery while swimming, exercising or gardening. It’s important to keep your ring in good condition by checking for damage or loose stones periodically.

Cleaning your jewellery is straighforward - simply soak in warm soapy water for a few minutes, then scrub gently with a soft toothbrush.

What if my jewellery gets damaged or lost?

It’s wise to consider insurance for your special jewellery - many home & contents insurance policies have provisions for jewellery up to a certain value, or you could insure with a specialist jewellery insurance provider such as T H March. In the event that your jewellery needs to be repaired, please get in touch as soon as possible.
